Love River originates from Renwu District, Kaohsiung City, flowing through downtown Kaohsiung, making it the lifeblood of the city. Downstream Love River has been dredged and transformed into a riverside park, which is one of the most popular recreational destinations in the city for taking walks and engaging in leisure activities. Due to industrial pollution and illegal discharge of effluent in the past, Love Water was notorious for its heavily contaminated water quality. Over the recent years, however, thanks to the government’s efforts in dredging the river and greenifying the riverbanks, as well as establishing recreational facilities, the Love River has been restored to its former glory, creating a romantic environment for the citizens.
After dusk, radiant neon lights light up the glistening Love River, while Hobby Mannbo and Golden Love River -- alfresco cafes on the east and west bank of the river – attract passersby with enchanting coffee aroma and melodious music, allowing them to appreciate the leisurely waterfront vibes of the harbour city, thereby achieving total relaxation for their body, mind, and spirit.

Pier-2 Art Center
Pier-2 was formerly a port warehouse located inside the 3rd basin of the Port of Kaohsiung. In 2001, a group of enthusiasts from the arts and culture sector formed the Pier-2 Art Development Association that in turn conceived of the Pier-2 Art Center, a hub for the development of the arts and culture in southern Taiwan. Pier-2 was transformed into a unique open art space for aspiring artists and students to create and present their artworks. Now, it is the most popular cultural destination in Kaohsiung.
Pier-2 Art Center organizes a wide variety of arts and cultural activities from time to time, including Kaohsiung Design Festival, The Delight of Chinese Character Festival, Kaohsiung International Steel and Iron Sculpture Festival and Kaohsiung International Container Arts Festival, etc. Each creative process in the city is embodied in the form of brand new concepts and appearances at Pier-2, in turn forming the glamorous culture and aesthetics of this maritime metropolis. In the creative workshop, different teams of resident artists are dedicated to making art creations part of everyday life, thereby instilling abundant artistic ambiance to the harbour city. Pier-2 Art Center not only embodies the spirit of artistic creations and a new generation of creative experiments but also starts a new southern art trend in Kaohsiung.

For over a century, it has been the religious hub of countless people in southern Taiwan. As the present Minor Basilica for the Diocese of Kaohsiung, it is one of Asia's three major cathedrals.

Located at the intersection of the Love River’s estuary and Port of Kaohsiung, Glory Pier was once Pier-13, playing a strategic role in transporting people and military supplies to Kinmen and Matsu. Having been decommissioned after an illustrious career, it was renamed Glory Pier and reopened as a tourist attraction and leisure area. The verdant, 500m-long arched landscape corridor surrounds the spacious waterfront square, offering an unobstructed, panoramic view. Visitors can admire the majestic scenery of the azure ocean and blue sky, as well as the cityscape consisting of skyscrapers. Alternatively, they can take in the mesmerizing, ever-changing façade of the Port of Kaohsiung during the day or at night. Glory Pier is situated opposite the Love Pier on the other side of Love River; both banks of the river are connected by bikeways, allowing visitors to leisurely take in the beauty of the harbour city in their own leisurely pace. The Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center, currently under construction, will be inaugurated in 2017, transforming the Glory Pier into a trendsetting, diverse recreational and cultural venue.

Officially named Pier-12, Love Pier was originally a bulk carrier dock. With the emergence of container ships, it gradually declined and fell into disuse. Love Pier is located at the Love River’s estuary, facing downtown Kaohsiung and Cijin Ferry Pier, therefore the unique twin sail design symbolizes Kaohsiung City’s dialogue with the port. The name Love Pier evokes romantic sentiments and images, as visitors can admire the modern presence of the high rise buildings in Kaohsiung, or feel the awe-inspiring sight of massive ships entering the Port of Kaohsiung. During the day or at night, the city will bedazzle the visitors with her kaleidoscopic appearance.
